Purpose and scope
This Policy on the use of social media is in addition to the Company`s existing Policy on internet and email use.
This Policy covers the use of social media by employees for both business and private purposes, regardless of whether it is used during or outside office hours, or regardless of whether accessed using computer or electronic communication systems and equipment of the Company or your own or others.
All forms of social media are covered by this Policy, to include, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Wikipedia, YouTube, Bebo and all other social networking websites and all other postings/blogs on the internet.
The purpose of this Policy is to outline your responsibilities when using the internet to access social networking websites. It is designed to make you aware of the risks to our confidential and proprietary information, reputation and our compliance with legal obligations so that you understand your responsibility in preventing or minimising these risks. In setting and monitoring these standards, the Company will comply with the individual rights of employees and any further legislative requirements.
Breach of this Policy may result in disciplinary action up to and including dismissal in line with the Company`s Disciplinary Policy. Any member of staff suspected of committing a breach of this Policy will be required to co-operate with our investigation. This may involve handing over relevant passwords and login details. Misuse of the web in accordance with this Policy, may mean any access is withdrawn. Any internet posting which is deemed to constitute a breach of this Policy may mean a request is made to remove it. Failure to comply with such a request may in itself result in disciplinary action.
This Policy applies to all employees and other workers within the Company, whether full or part-time, as well as agency workers, temporary workers, contractors, [volunteers] and also third parties who have access to the Company`s computers or other electronic communication systems or equipment.
This Policy does not form part of your terms and conditions of employment and may be amended from time to time.
