Employing people with criminal records checklist

It is recommended that your review this checklist in conjunction with the Factsheet on Employing People with Criminal Records.

  1. Is the position exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA)? If so, have you informed applicants of this in advance and that employment will be subject to either a standard or enhanced disclosure of criminal records, which includes any spent convictions?
  2. Is the position one which involves working in a regulated or controlled activity with children or vulnerable adults? If so, have you requested a check against the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) barred lists?
