Under English law all industrial action is unlawful unless the procedural requirements of statute are complied with. There is no positive "right to strike" or to take other collective action.
 
Contract of employment
 
Industrial action, regardless of whether it is protected by the law, will nearly always involve the employee participating in it being in fundamental breach of contract.
 
If employees are on strike then they do not need to be paid for the period during which they are on strike.
