The impact of technology-dependent Gen Z on the workplace – Amanda Glover writes for Business Voice magazine

Gen z

Gen Z, the generation that views their mobile devices as extensions of themselves and liberally document their lives on social media, have entered the workplace and don’t employers know it! Gen Z are the first true digital natives, and this brings many advantages to the workplace; they can adapt to new technologies quickly and are often first to adopt new ways of working.

On the flip side, Gen Z appear so accustomed to sharing their lives, being vulnerable and seeking support digitally, that they see no harm in sharing details of their work woes online too. The TikTok hashtag #layoffs has gained significant interest, with it becoming increasingly normal for Gen Z to post videos online of being dismissed. The difficulty of handling what were already sensitive circumstances, has now become twofold for employers as issues break out far beyond the confines of the workplace.
