Applying for a visitor visa factsheet

This factsheet provides guidance on how to apply for a visitor visa.

A standard visitor visa enables a person from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) to come to the UK, usually for up to 6 months, for a temporary purpose, e.g. as a tourist, to visit friends or family or to carry out a business activity.

The standard visitor visa has replaced the old ‘family visitor’ and ‘business visitor’ visas.
