This factsheet provides guidance on the regulation for the gender pay gap.
“Gender pay gap” (GPG) refers to the difference between the mean and median hourly rates of pay between men and women. According to the ONS in April 2024, the GPG for full time employees stood at 7% (down from 7.5% in April 2023) and has been declining slowly over time.
It is important to remember that GPG is NOT the same as equal pay, it does not measure the difference between what men and women are paid for the same or equal work and does not consider whether employees are working full or part-time.
The Equality Act 2010 (Gender Pay Gap Information) Regulations 2017 (the “Regulations”) require employers with 250 or more relevant employees to review and publicly report on their GPG, using data obtained from a ‘snapshot’ period each year, or in the case of bonus pay gap, the period in which the bonus covers.
